A MULTIETHNIC COMMUNITY THAT GROWS IN LOVE FOR JESUS AND TRANSFORMS SIU BY MAKING HIM KNOWN

About

We believe that every language, culture, and style of worship will be represented in Heaven.
So why not start now?

Multiethnicity

Multiethnicity is the belief that all God’s people are welcome and cherished in The Kingdom. It is the hope and vision of a community of Christ followers that represent the diversity of God’s creation. It is the belief that all men and women are created equal and have value before God and to the rest of the Body. It is understanding that all of who we are - our ethnicity and culture - matters to God as valuable parts of our identity. It is the vision that here, in our diverse context, we can honor, celebrate, and utilize the diversity God has given us for the sake of His Kingdom, reaching people of every ethnicity and culture.

So what does that mean for us?

One way we can begin implementing this idea of multiethnicity is through our musical worship. It means we should learn more about ourselves, and what our own unique culture and preferences are. However, it also means that sometimes we’ll be asked to sacrifice those things in order to make others feel welcomed and cherished. It means we might have to sacrifice a few extra minutes of our week to practice that Latin strumming pattern, or learn that African drum beat. But if a small gesture like that can make someone feel welcomed and loved by God... isn’t that worth it all?

People

Meet the team!

I'm the Worship Coordinator for our chapter [as well as our resident web designer], and I serve on our Executive Team. I grew up in a very white church, but I have a passion for gospel music. God really opened up my small views of worship when I joined the team freshman year... And now I'm the leader!

Claire Satkamp
Worship Coordinator

Clay is one of the most talented drummers I've ever played with. He is brilliantly intelligent and is an extremely hard-working musician, who always comes prepared. However, even if he didn’t prepare, he’d probably still kill it on Thursday night. He’s just that good.
